Nice collectable grade, seldom offered for sale, coin has come direct from a private collection
The elephant was the provenance mark of Company of the Royal Adventurers of England trading into Africa set up in 1662
The obverse features the second laureate and draped head of Charles II with elephant below and is inscribed CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA. The reverse features crowned cruciform shields with a garter star at the centre and interlinked conjoined C’s at the angles. It is inscribed MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX. The edge is inscribed DECVS ET TVTAMEN ANNO REGNI XVIII
