These very rare crowns are now selling for 30k upwards in mint state, out of reach to a lot of buyers now, this one I have is not in mint state but a nice EF giving you the opportunity to acquire one for a reasonable price
An exceptional opportunity to purchase an extremely rare 1839 Silver Proof Crown which formed part of the 1839 Queen Victoria ‘Una and the Lion’ set issued in that year.
Only 400 of these coins were issued in each of the sets. The sets were issued privately.
Obverse shows the monarch’s ‘young head’ bust facing left by engraver William Wyon. The letters ‘W.WYON R.A.’ (William Wyon Royal Academy) are raised on the truncation. , Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, ‘VICTORIA DEI GRATIA’.
Reverse design by Jean Baptiste Merlen, an ex-Paris Mint engraver who left France to work alongside Wyon and Pistrucci.
