I have for sale a nice George V 1911 Coronation Proof Year Set , four proof gold coins and eight proof silver coins known as the long Set, gold Five Pounds, Two Pounds, Sovereign and Half-Sovereign, silver Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence and Maundy Set, housed in the original Royal Mint case of issue with gold block crest and lettering (S.PS11)
1911 Coronation Proof Set Info
The Proof sets of 1911 were issued with gold coins in either long set or short set, the long set comprised of 12 coins, Gold Five Pounds down to the Maundy Penny with a mintage of just 2812 sets, the short set comprised of of 10 coins, Sovereign down to Maundy, There was also a “budget” third set with the proof silver coins only from Halfcrown to Maundy Penny. These sets were issued in the Royal Mint red case with gold block crest and lettering, cream silk inlay and blue velvet cushioning
The new coronation Proof sets (referred to as specimen sets at the time) were offered to the public with the following price tags according to the Royal Mint annual Report 1911 vol no.42
Set A (the Long gold set) £10 without case, additional 6 shillings for the case of issue
Set B (the short gold set) £2 & 10 shillings, additional 5 shillings for the case of issue
Set C (purely the silver coins) offered with case for 15 shillings
The Coronation of the King took place on the 22nd June 1911
The new proof coins were first exhibited at the British Numismatic Society meeting on 25th October 1911 by Mr Cumberland Clark
